    The enlightenmnet was a time of change for the world but also specifically for Europe. There were many new ideas that changed the beliefs, views and values of society and the government.
  • Industrial Revolution

    Industrial Revolution
    The industrial revolution was a time of transition to new manufacturing processes that would help everyday life. Many new ideas were created so that the processes that keeps everything going, can move and go easier.
  • French Revolution

    French Revolution
    The French Revolution was a time to change the rules when society was feeling oppressed and they were scared of where the country was going under the rule of Louis XVI. This is when France gained its independence.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    Tennis Court Oath
    The Tennis Court Oath was created to keep a pledge that a declaration of independence would be created mainly because the third estate was being treated very poorly. This happened when Louis XVI and the first two estates teamed up to work together in the Estates General. Then when they heard that the third estate was meeting up, they locked them out of their meeting place. This provoked them to create the Tennis Court Oath.

    The Haitian Revolution was a time of change for Haiti so that the people of the island could get their independence from France. At the time, it was called Saint-Domingue but many things changed during this conflict.

    The reign of terror was a time of horror and death in France. It took place during the french revolution when Louis XVI was running the country into the ground. Maximilien Robespierre took over and beheaded the king, then he ruled the country very harshly and ended up killing thousands.
  • Rise of Napooleon

    The rise of Napoleon started when the Directory made him the general. He went around Europe ending the wars and battles created under the rule of Maximilien Robespierre. When he saw that the Directory was pretty innefective, he illegally siezed power. He then went around and took over much of Europe, exhausting his resources.

    The Congress of Vienna was a meeting of all the super powers in Europe taking place in Vienna 1814-1815. The meeting was started because of Napoleon. After he attacked Europe and tried to take over the continent the super powers decided that they would set up alliances so that this or anything like this can't happen again.

    The opium war was a problem for China that was started by the British. It was a ploy so that the British could make China give in to trade with the western world. They used the drug Opium to trick China and this worked in Britain's favor, many people in China were soon addicted.

    The treaty of nanjing was a treaty that stated that Britain will stop importing Opium into china as long as they get to annex Hong Kong and have extraterritorial rights when in China.

    Matthew Perry was a Commander of the US Navy and he sailed into a Japanese port on july 8th 1853 where he demanded trade with them.

    The treaty of Kanagawa wa the basically the first interaction that Japan had with the western world in a long time. The US pressured Japan into signing this treaty that gave the US extraterritorial rights in Japan and let the US set up an embassy.

    The Sepoy Mutiny was an uprising of the Hindi and Muslim Sepoys working for the British East India company. They were uprising because of treatment. They were all being treated terribly by the British and decided to fight back when they were deliberately treated this way.

    The Berlin Conference was a meeting of many European countries that was supposed to set up how the continent would be divided into the colonies for the Europeans. Strangely, no african people were present at the meeting.

    The Boxer Rebellion was a rebellion in China that was aimed to get the foreigners out of the country. It was especially aimed at the qing dynasty and the higher privileged foreigners.
