Windows 1.0 was made for limited multitasking of existing MS-DOS programs. You could do things like simple calculations, tell what time it was, use a calendar, or play reversi. -
Windows 2.0
Windows 2.0 allowed application windows to overlap each other, Windows 2.0 also introduced more sophisticated keyboard-shortcuts and the terminology of "Minimize" and "Maximize". Windows 2.0 was also the first windows to have Microsoft Paint. -
Windows 3
A number of simple applications were included, such as the text editor Notepad and the word processor Write, a macro recorder, the paint program Paintbrush, and a calculator. Also, the earlier Reversi game was complemented with the card game Microsoft Solitaire. -
Windows 95
Windows 95 added a right click which allowed you to do shortcuts like copy and paste. Windows 95 also began to have a task bar to store the links that can active or inactive an running program and display some system information in the tray area. In Windows 95, files, drives, shortcuts and network resources can all be displayed in a folder view in the new Windows Explorer. -
Windows 98
Windows added new features to the Taskbar such as Quick Launch. Windows 98 added Active Desktop that allowed for users to customize their desktop with the Internet. Windows 98 was the first Windows to support multiple monitors on one computer. -
Windows 2000
Microsoft included Active Directory feature for the first time in Windows 2000 Server. It is used to store information about resources, users, or a group and its attributes. Windows 2000 the brought Distributed File System feature which enables users to distribute files across multiple servers over the network. Windows 2000 added Virtual Private Networks. With this feature, users can access shared files that reside on your system or on the network. -
Windows 7
The Taskbar contained 3 main components, the Start button, the Task/Quicklaunch bar and the System Notification Area. Windows 7 included an application to capture, save and share “snipped” images from your desktop. Windows 7 added libraries. Libraries are an easy way to collect and track documents on your computer that are related to one another but are not located in the same folders. -
Windows 8
In Windows 8, searching from the Start screen or clicking on the Search charm will display search results within a full-screen interface. Windows 8 introduced a redesigned lock screen based on the Metro design language. The lock screen displays a customizable background image, the current date and time, notifications from apps, and detailed app status or updates. Windows 8 displays a peek button for password text boxes which can optionally allows users to view passwords as they are entered. -
Windows 10
Windows 10 added Cortana, which is a voice search helper. Windows 10 also added the Xbox app, which allows you to access your Xbox account via your computer. Windows 10 added a new Multiple Desktops feature lets you run another set of windows as if on another screen, but without the physical monitor.
