Michelle starts elementary school at Bryn Mawer elementary school
Michelle starts kindergarten at the same school her brother was attending. She loved school and when faced with her first learning hurdle, not knowing how to read the word "white" Michelle took this as a challenged and learned the word over night in order too spell it properly at school the next day this was the first sign of her strong character and feisty side. Michelle starts highs school at Whitney M. Young
Michelle was gifted in school, taking advanced programs during her elementary years. When entering high school Michelle got to go to Whitney M. Young a high school for students who were academically inclined. Michelle had to take two buses to get to school everyday but she was determined to learn and excel. Pg;54-60 -
Michelle starts collage at Princeton
Michelle starts her first year at Princeton, her brother Craig also goes there. Michelle is happy to get into Princeton after her guidance told her she wasn't Princeton material. Pg;68-83 -
Michelle starts Harvard law school
After graduating Princeton with a major in Sociology and a minor in African American studies, Michelle wrote her LSAT and applied, and got into Harvard Law School. Pg; 91-92 -
Michelle starts her job at Sidley and Austin as a lawyer
Right after Michelle graduates law school she starts a high paying job at Sidley and Austin a law firm based in Chicago. Soon after her arrival in the company she is asked to metro an Harvard graduate. Pg;92-93 -
Barack Obama and Michelle first meet
Barack came in late his first day, Michelle was his mentor and was showing him the ropes of being a corporate lawyer. Pg; 95 -
Michelle and Barack start their relationship
although Michelle was apprehensive at first to start dating Barack because she was has adviser, she deiced to go on the date and in her own words. "the feelings came rushing" Pg;111 -
Michelle's best friend passes away
Michelle's collage best friend Suzanne is diagnosed with cancer. She passes away shortly after her diagnosis. This was a significant point in Michelle life because this was one of the first people she lost that was extremely close to her. This also affected Michelle a lot because it showed her how short life was, and inspired her to be more like Suzanne and do things that made her happy because you never know what will happen. Michelle's dad passes away
Michelle's dad suffer from MS for all of his adult life, despite his disability he still went to work every day and refused to get medical treatment. Insisting that he was "doing fine". In 1991 after Michelle convinced her dad for the first time to go to the hospital for help, they found out he had crushing syndrome. He passed away shortly after. Michelle was very close to her dad and this was very hard on her family. Pg;142-143 -
Michelle and Barack get engaged
After baiting Michelle with a "lawyer" style argument about marriage, Barack purposes to her in their favorite restaurant. Pg.156 -
Michelle and Barack get married
Michelle and Barack got married on October 3rd 1992. It was a small wedding with their close family and friends. -
Michelle starts to have doubts about her job at Sidley and Austin
Michelle starts to have doubts about her career, weather or not she is happy with her career and is not as rewarding as other people in her life careers seem to be. she confides in her mom saying "I am just not fulfilled". Pg;135 -
Michelle starts her job at Public Allies
Michelle started her new job for the city of Chicago, for an organization called public allies. It was a start-up program that recruited talented young people and gave them opportunities in the community. Pg. 175 -
Malia Obama is born
After struggling to get pregnant, and trying IVF Michelle and Barack finally got pregnant and had Malia Obama. Malia was born on the fourth of July, which in hindsight is a weird coincidence. Pg; 190 -
Sasha Obama is born
Michelle and Barack welcomed their second daughter on June 10 2001 after a single round of IVF. Her full name was Natasha but Michelle deiced that Sasha was what they would call because it has a "sassy ring" to it. Pg. 199 -
Barack Obama becomes the president of the United States
After months of campaigning in the South Side all the way to Iowa. Michelle had become a key asset in Barack's campaign, juggling now her job at the hospital and a her kids Michelle still managed to support Barack and his campaign. When Barack was elected the world ultimately shifted, it was a monumental moment in history. Pg. 278
