Thriller is released

Michael Jacksons realeases his album thriller. Thriller earns a record eight Grammys, and became the best selling album worldwide in 1983.

Pepsi_Cola Disaster

During production of a Pepsi Cola commercial, Jackson’s scalp is burned when a pyrotechnic special effect sets his hair on fire live on stage. Audience members help him set out the fire. he is rushed to the hospital.

We Are The World

Jackson, Lionel Richie, and 43 other singers record what becomes one of the fastest-selling singles ever: “We Are the World.” Written by Jackson and Richie, the song was produced to raise money for victims of the famine in Ethiopia. The same year, Jackson pays $47.5 million for the rights to more than 250 songs written by John Lennon, and Paul McCartney.

NeverLand

Jackson pays $14.6 million for a 2500 acre property in Santa Barbara Calif in wine country. He names it Neverland and creates a sprawling childrens playground, complete with amusement park rides, and a zoo.
