Frusterated by creative barriers put up by Motown's management, the Jackson 5 elected to leave Motown. After a fierce legal battle, Motown won the right to keep the Jackson 5 name so the group adopted the name "The Jacksons". -

After another successful group tour, Michael continued to ascent as a solo megastar with the release of "Thriller" in December 1982 -
Bob Jones was hired.
Bob Jones left Motown in 1987 when Michael Jackson hired him as VP of MJJ Productions. -
$1 billion deal with Sony Music.
Since Michael wasn't able to control Janet, he signed the rest of the family, including the nieces and nephews, to his label and refused to let any of it get out. By signing them to long-term contracts, Michael had his entire family under his finger. -
2300 Jackson Street
As a unit, mostly without Michael, the rest of the family recorded the album "2300 Jackson Street". Michael appeared in the video for the song and then, as usual, had the album pulled because it's success could have provided the family with wealth independant of Michael, and he would not let that happen. -
Black Or White
Ironically, Jermaine's song was released the same week as Michael's hit single "Black Or White." The two Jackson brothers war went public. Tabliod reports of dysfunction in the family increased, as did Michael's disdain for Jermaine. -

Yours Faithfully
Michael helped his sister Rebbie work on her album for 5 years. After the title track "Yours Faithfully" was released, Rebbie was in the spotlight and Michael couldn't handle that. After a month of the track being out, Michael ordered the record pulled. It was too much success for a sibling, and Michael couldn't stomach it. -
Child Molestation.
In 2003, Michael Jackson was charged with Child Molestation in Santa Barbara.
