1831 Generated Electricity
In 1831 Faraday generated electricity from magnetism in three different ways,
He allowed the magnetism of an electric coil to generate a current in a adjacent cell.
He thrust a magnet into a coil's interior.
He span a copper disc between the poles of a magnet. This produced a steady stream of electricity- the worlds first dynamo. -
1832 Doctor of Civil Law
In June of 1832 the University of oxford granted Faraday a Doctor of Civil Law degree (honorary). -
1839 Nervous Breakdown
Faraday did not know enough mathematics to translate his ideas
into a mathematical theory and suffered a nervous breakdown
in the attempt. -
1845 Diamagnetism
In 1845 Faraday discovered that many materials exhibit a weak repulsion from a magnetic field. He termed this diamagnetism. -
1849 Grace and Favour House
In 1849 Faraday was awarded a grace and favour house in Hampton Court in Middlesex, England. Free of all expenses and upkeep. -

Faraday refused a request by the British goverment to advise on the production of chemical weapons for use in the Crimean War. Faraday refused citing ethical reasons. -
1867 Death
Michael Faraday died on Aug. 25,1867 in Hampton Court, England. He was 75 years old.
