Thrash/ metal bands start experimenting with hardcore elements
thrash bands such as slayer and Metallica started taking on more hardcore elements like fast riffs and drumming. From this a new sub gerne formed crossover thrash that blended thrash with hardcores breakdowns and screaming vocals. Bands such as suicidal tendencies, anthrax and no mercy are just a few of the names that pioneered this new aggressive form of heavy metal. -
Misfits release Earth A.D
Earth A.D waa the second full-length album by punk band Misfits and was big influence on thrash. -
Punk bands
Punk-based such as black flag and bad brains admired bands such as black sabbath By British Hardcore punk groups such as Corrosion of Conformity, Dirty Rotten Imbeciles and Suicidal Tendencies playing alongside thrash metal groups like Metallica and Slayer. Both Metal and Hardcore bands started experimenting and influencing each other and eventually created a new sub genre “Crossover Thrash” . A scene started to brew at a Berkeley club called Ruthie's in the UK 1984. -

New school
In the early 1990’s a second wave of hardcore emerged called “new school” these bands took even more influence from heavy metal some bands include hatebreed, biohazard and integrity developing a more technically advanced approach than the noraml hardcore song (which focused on very fast tempos and very short songs) these bands were more metal-sounding and aggressive than traditional hardcore punk and thrashcore and this is where metalcore started to shape. -

Earth chrisis realeased first album
Destroy the Machines their first full-length record, Destroy the Machines was a influential album for the emerging metalcore genre. In guitarist Scott Crouse's words: It was a very mixed reaction. I'm often quoted as saying that Earth Crisis was the first hardcore band with a metal sound. Of course we weren't the first, but I think we definitely took it to another level. We heard a lot of, 'These guys are trying to be Pantera,' which we all took as a great complement. -

Metalcore started to gain more prominence
In the early 2000′s the decline of nu metal had all but killed any kind of commercial heavy metal. The heaviest thing being played on radio and MTV was Nickelback. Metalcore would seize this opportunity to become the new commercial face of heavy metal. While it still did not get much radio airplay, metalcore became the most popular form of heavy metal in the 2000′s with major success from bands like Killswitch Engage, All that remains, as i lay dying. -

In 2012 the band were rumoured to enter the studio to start recording their 6th studio album. But in january 2012 the band announced on the band's official website, that Howard Jones had left the band after his nine-year membership with them. No reasons were disclosed to the public for the privacy of jones. After many rumors and speculation The band's search for a new singer ended in February with the announcement that original lead vocalist Jesse Leach would return to the band. -
