The French and Indian War
This war was the start of open violence between Great Britain and the colonies. The people in the colonies began to question the King and British authorities. Also, this war put Great Britain into a large debt. An attempt to pay the money owed Great Britain began to tax the colonists.

The Sugar Act
Places a tax on molasses and certain goods that were shipped to Britain. The tax was only 3 cents per gallon but the leaders began to rage. The term ''Taxation without representation'' was coined. -
The Stamp Act
This is the pivoting point. Things turn from bad to worst once the colonists reject the Stamp Act. This act required a tax on every paper product of 1 cent. The colonists were so fed up of taxation without representation that they cut all ties with Great Britian. -
The Townshed Acts
This act was set in place so that the colonists pat salaries of judges and governors. In reply to the act the colonists boy cotted British imports. The effect of this was the Boston Massacre. -
The Boston Masacre
To enforce the Townshed Act British troops were stationed in Boston. In the event of the Boston Masacre a crowd of colonists began to torment and harass the soldiers. One of the British troops fired into the crowd. The other troops immediately did the same sensing danger. After the event five colonists were dead and many wounded. Paul Revere used this event to his advantage to make drawings in the news showing the British attacking colonists. -
The Boston Tea Party
This was a raid on three British ships in Boston Harbor (December 16, 1773) in which Boston colonists, disguised as Indians, threw the contents of several hundred chests of tea into the harbor as a protest against British taxes on tea and against the monopoly granted the East India Company. -
The Quartering Act
This required colonists to provide housing to soldiers, The soldiers could appear at any time without reason. This later became a specific part of the Bill of Rights, that no citizen can be required to house troops. -
Assemby of The First Continental Congress
The Continental Congress began when colonists wanted to stop the kings taxes and the Intolerable Acts. -
The Commitee of Correspondents
The Commitee of Correspondents was created to put into action the opposition of the Intolerable Acts. The idea was to connect each colony to Virgina and communicate about local feelings towards Great Britain. -
The Signing of the Declaration of Independence
The Declaration ofd Independence declares the seperation from Great Britain. The documents call upon each individual to realize that they have natural rights and freedoms.
