Financial panics allowed men in the late 19th century to accept ready-to-wear clothing. By 1910 Ready-to-wear clothing stores had become accepted as part of daily life. -
The Roaring 20s
In the 1920s many things were happening in the post-WW1 world. Women had gained voting rights and talking movies had been created. By the late 1920s the Great Depression had begun. -
Depression Era
During the 1930s the Great Depression was at large. There was a large amount of unemployment and little money. Due to this men's fashion came to a halt. Most attention was spent on uniforms. But, for non service men, created a need for "civvies" or civilian clothes for men. At this time Hollywood also began to have an influence. -
World War 2
During WW2 there were many government restrictions and a shortage of materials. During this decade emerged American designers. While there was an increase in suburban living this created a need for clothes worn outside of the workplace. Which then led to the increase popularity of leisure wear. -
The Baby Boomer Generation
During this decade incomes were rising and technology was advancing. There was improved transportations and communications. This was also the birth of Rock and Roll!
