    Declaration Of Independence
    The Declaration of Independence was written while the 13 colonies were at war with Great Britain. The Declaration declared the United States of America (The 13 Colonies) free from Great Britain and now independant states. This document said that we were going to be our own country and would no longer pay Great Britain's taxes or follow their king's rules.

    Louisiana Purchase
    The United States paid France $15 million in exchange for 828,000 square miles of land. This was known as the Louisiana Purchase. This land nearly doubled the size of our country. This land, explored by Lewis and Clark, opened up the country to the Westward Expansion.

    Texas Joins the United States of America
    This was an important event for the U.S. and Texas. This meant much more land for the United States. Texas gained the protection and laws of the United States.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Emancipation Proclamation
    The Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Abraham Lincoln during the 3rd year of the civil war. It stated that all slaves were freed. This meant people would get paid for their work and could not be owned by others. Many freed slaves joined the Union Army in the Civil War to ensure freedom for all slaves in Confederate states.
  • The Completion Of The Transcontinental Railroad

    The Transcontinental Railroad connected the country from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean by rail. Covering such a great distance, this was considered one of the most significant and ambitious American feats of the 19th century. It received much government funding and land. The final railroad spike that connected the East and West was a golden spike. This spike was put in during a ceremony honoring the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad.

    Thomas Edison Invents First Lightbulb
    Thomas Edison built the first lightbulb in 1879 using a carbon filament. The invention of the lightbulb allowed the continued investigation of the uses for electricity. This lightbulb made it possible for farmers to work after dark, lessoned the risk of fires by not having an open flame, and helped people brighten the dark. Invented in America, this led America to be the leader in electric lighting technology.

    Orville and Wilbur Wright were the first people to successfully build an aircraft capable of lifting a human into the air and letting him control the airplane's flight. This enabled America to lead the world in aviation technology and aircraft design.

    Centered in Europe, the First World War was fought by The Allies (United Kingdom, France, Russia and The United States) and the Central Powers. (Germany and Austria-Hungary) This war ended with nearly 70 million military personnel killed. In the end, the Allies won.

    Starting in 1939 when Adolf Hitler of Germany tried to conquer the world, the Second World War resulted in millions of deaths. The United States of America got involved when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. The United States Armed Forces fought in Europe, Africa, and the Pacific. The United States sent the US Air Force to attack Japan with an atomic bomb. This caused Japan to surrender to Allied forces which ended the war. This atomic bomb started the Nuclear Age.

    The Landing of Apollo 11
    This was the first mission that actually landed on the moon. Neil Armstrong was the first person to set foot on the moon. His first words standing on the moon were "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." The United States of America was the first country able to land on the moon. The American flag was placed on the moon because of that. Space technology led to the creation of the GPS, robotics, heart pumps, computer technology, and other useful products.

    9/11
    On the morning of September 11th, a group of 19 al-Qaeda millitants hijacked 4 U.S. commercial planes. They crashed these planes into both Twin Towers in New York, the Pentagon, and one crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. Over 3,000 people were killed including over 400 police officers and firefighters. This was the first time a large terrorist act occured in the U.S. This changed the U.S. outlook on security.
