Despite the Munich pact, Germany and the Soviet Union invade Poland. Germany from the west, and the soviet union from the East. This leads to Great Britain and France declaring war on Germany. -

Most of Europe was under Hitlers control by 1940. France becomes taken over and are pushed into Great Britain. -

Japan surprise attack’s U.S naval base at pearl harbor. 2400 us troops killed. U.S declares war on Japan. -
Allied invasion on Italy
The allied troops made there way from North Africa to attack Italy. Fortunately the Italians were nice to the allied troops and did not put up a fight. The italians end up killing dictator Benito Mussolini -
D-Day (Normandy invasion)
Allied commanders plan a land invasion in France. This attack is known as “operation overload”. Allies defeat Germany. -
Battle of the Bulge
Hitlers last attempt to keep control of Europe. Germans ran out of fuel. They surrendered to the allied on may 7, a day known as V-E day. -

U.S begins island hopping in attempt to defeat Japan. U.S troops striked the island of Iwo Jima. U.S defeated captured the island -
Battle of Okinawa
Major battle in pacific ocean. Named “Operation iceburg”. One of the bloodiest battles but ended in U.S victory. -
V-E day
German troops surrender to the allies. France and Britain regain all lost territory. Adolf Hitler commits suicide. -
Dropping of the atomic bombs
President Truman drops atomic bombs in Japan. The city of Hiroshima and Nagasaki left in ruins. 185,000 japanese civilians die. -
V-J day
Japan finally surrenders. Atomic bomb attack’s triggered the surrender. U.S and allied powers won.
