U.S begins island hopping in attempt to defeat Japan. U.S troops striked the island of Iwo Jima. U.S defeated captured the island

Major battle in pacific ocean. Named “Operation iceburg”. One of the bloodiest battles but ended in U.S victory.

German troops surrender to the allies. France and Britain regain all lost territory. Adolf Hitler commits suicide.

President Truman drops atomic bombs in Japan. The city of Hiroshima and Nagasaki left in ruins. 185,000 japanese civilians die.

Japan finally surrenders. Atomic bomb attack’s triggered the surrender. U.S and allied powers won.
