Lincoln Re-Elected and Passes Wade-Davis Bill
President Lincoln was Re-Elected on November 8th. The Wade-Davis Bill said that 50 percent of a state’s white males take a loyalty oath to be readmitted to the Union. And, states were required to give blacks the right to vote. -
13th Amendment, Freedmen's Bureau, Lee Surrenders/End of Civil War, Lincoln Assasinated/Johnson Becomes President, Black Codes, and Johnson Declares Reconstruction Complete.
The 13th Amendment abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime. Freedmen's Bureau was a foundation that helped poor whites and newly freed black people by giving them shelter, food, water, medical help, and legal support. Black Codes are Laws passed by the south after the civil war to compell black poeple to work in harsh enviroments doing things like picking cotton and discriminated against them. -
Radical Republicans
Radical Republicans were a groupf of Republicans opposed to slavery and fought for the rights of black people. During Reconstruction they possed the danger of not meating in the middle they wouldnt compromise on the rights of black people. -
1st, 2nd, and 3rd Reconstruction Acts
The 1st reconstruction act divided the South (except Tennessee) into five military districts in which the authority of the army commander was supreme. -
Johnson Impeached, 14th Amendment ratified, and Ulysses S. Grant Elected
JOhnson was impeached for the removal of Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton, a violation of the Tenure of Office Act. The 14th amendment made black people equal citizens. Ulysses S. Grant was a good hearted man as president he cared about black people getting their rights but wasnt the best president putting us into severe dept. -
Sharecropping
Sharecropping when a landowner allows a tenant to use the land in return for a share of the crops produced on their portion of land. -
15th Amendment Ratified
The 15th amendment gave black people the right to vote. -
Enforcement Acts
They were criminal codes which protected black peoples right to vote, to hold office, to serve on juries, and receive equal protection of laws. -
Freedmens Bureau Terminated, and Amnesty Act of 1872
The amnesty act of 1872 let southern men back into union government jobs. -
Lame-Duck Congress Passes Civil RIghts Act
