    Cassia realizes they are poisoning the nutrition workers, so she opts to send Ky away

    Cassia gets angry when she learns Ky fell for her only because the Officials told him she'd be his Match if he weren't an Aberration. She goes and confesses everything to Xander.

  • The Outer Provinces and the red tablet

    Cassia watches as Ky is taken away by the Officials. She learns it's not for a new work assignment, but instead a death sentence—he's being sent to the Outer Provinces to fight the rebels.
    When everyone is asked to take the red tablet, Cassia realizes that it erases memories; she stomps hers out surreptitiously, refusing to forget Ky.

  • The farmlands and the last meeting with her Official

    Cassia finds out her family is being relocated to the farmlands.
    Cassia meets with her Official and learns that Ky was placed into the Matching Pool as an experiment. Except… she can tell the Official is lying.

  • Xander's goodbye and the Western Outer Provinces

    Cassia says goodbye to Xander. She learns Xander and Ky are immune to the effects of the red tablet, and Xander gives her a farewell gift of blue tablets for the road.
    Cassia's family heads to their new home in the Keya farmlands. Cassia gets sent on a three-month work assignment to the Western Outer Provinces—her parents are giving her a chance to find Ky.
