    Categorized in two categories: General Interest and Special Interest. Digital versions are now offered.
    First example was a German literary and philosophy magazine published in 1663.

    Alexander Graham Bell invented the photophone optical transmission system.
    Early uses were for sending morse code messages to ships and used on both sides during World War 1.
    Radio was also used in homes for entertainment before televisions were invented.

    Since its creation, video games have only become more and more popular.
    As of 2015, video game sales generated 74 billion worldwide annually.
    Today, the Asian market is the leading force in video game sales.
    There are also many conventions and museums around the world dedicated to the appreciation of video games.

    TV has evolved to allow features such as smart TV and 3D TV.

    Mobile phones and tablets encompass all of the aspects of mass media on one device. Since the invention of the iPhone, mobile phones provide games, books, magazines, internet, music, text messaging, calling, social media.
    Mobile devices are often called the "7th mass medium."

    The internet has allowed for people in separate countries around the world to communicate with each other in real time.
    The addition of Google, YouTube, and social media sites have increased the world's population of internet users.

    Developed by Phillips and Sony.
    In 2007, CDs reached their peak of 200 billion discs sold worldwide.
    Today, CD sales have dropped about 50% from their original peak.

    Posts or articles written by a single person or specific group of people with shared interests, using the internet as a medium.
    A majority of blogs are interactive, so readers can comment and even message each other.
    Some blogs are commentary on a specific subject, some are more like personal diaries.
    Vlogs are Video Blogs. YouTube is the main medium for vlogs which have become more popular in recent years. Especially for celebrities.
