Frankenstein
In the summer of 1816, the English poet Lord Byron was on vacation near Geneva with his physician, John William Polidori, and other guests, such as the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and his wife, Mary. During a gathering night, Byron proposed a game, which consisted of each of them writing a horror story. Converted into a book, "Frankenstein or the modern Prometheus", Mary's story would become a pillar of science fiction and a great nest of ideas for literature. -
Her books
She wrote several books, including Valperga (1823)and the Last Man (1826). Her most famous novel was Frankenstein (1818), It was the first science fiction novel. Valperga is based on a true event that occurred in post-Napoleonic Europe.
The Last Man, tells the story of a futuristic world that has been ravaged by a plague. -
Death
Mary died of brain cancer on February 1st (1851) at age of 53, in London, England.
