Mary was born
Mary was born and depended on the care of her parents. Trusting in their love, care, and nurture.
In Erikson's first stage, Trust versus mistrust, the infant depends on everything from their caregivers. If the infant received good care, the child would feel safe in the world, if not, the child would fear in the world. -
Mary turned 2 years old
Mary was potty trained successfully. She learned how to control her emotions and regulate her body's needs.
In Erikson's second stage, Autonomy versus shame and doubt, the child learns how to be more independent, and have personal control. Success in this stage leads to autonomy; otherwise, shame and doubt. -
Mary made new friends
Mary (age 4) explored her environment, made new friends, and she discovered new things, and activities to share with her family and friends.
In Erikson's third stage, initiative versus guilt, children at this stage learn how to become leaders, and take initiative in different activities, failure to do this, can have feelings of guilt, and self-doubt.
