The first film set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It stars Robert Downey Jr. as the titular hero. The film was a major hit and it helped kick start one of the most successful film franchises of all time. It also helped to resurrect Downey's career after a long history of drug abuse. -
The Incredible Hulk
The second film in the MCU stars Edward Norton as the green monster himself. Although the film was a moderate success there has never been a sequel, and Edward Norton would be replaced by Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. Because of the lack of callbacks to this movie many fans consider it to be the "oddball" of the series. -
Iron Man 2
The sequel to the first Iron Man. It was released in 2010 and saw the introduction of Black Widow in the MCU. James Rhodes would also don his War Machine suit for the first time. While it may be inferior to the first Iron Man, the film was still a huge success. -
Thor
The movie stars Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder. It also stars Tom Hiddleston as everyone's favorite marvel villain Loki. The film would receive mixed reviews for its emphasis on the human characters. The events of this film would eventually lead to the first major crossover film in the MCU. -
Captain America: The First Avenger
The first superhero in the MCU, starring Chris Evans as the captain himself. It is set during World War II, and it centers on Captain America fighting the Red Skull and his Hydra forces. Many fans had doubts about this film, due to the casting of Chris Evans, but his performance was well received. -
The Avengers
After four years of anticipation, they assemble. The main lineup for this superhero team are Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye. Together they will try and stop Loki from taking over the world. This movie marks the end of Phase One. The Avengers was a huge success, grossing over a billion dollars at the box office. -
Iron Man 3
Iron Man 3 is the final chapter in the Iron Man trilogy. It also marks the beginning of Phase Two in the MCU. The film was controversial upon its release for its Mandarin twist. The main villain was actually Aldrich Killian, who wants to kill Tony because he stood him up many years go. There are a lot of mixed feelings about his film. -
Thor: The Dark World
The sequel to the first Thor movie. Thor The Dark World received mixed reviews upon release. Many fans felt that the main villain was forgettable and that the supporting characters were uninteresting. There are some fans who would go as far as to call it the worst film in the MCU. -
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
The sequel to the first Captain America movie, now set in the modern day. This film is widely regarded to be superior to the original, with better writing, and better action set pieces. It also saw the introduction of the Winter Soldier, who is actually Steve Rogers best friend Bucky. Hydra also makes a surprise comeback, as they were rebuilding within S.H.I.E.L.D this whole time. -
Guardians Of The Galaxy
This entry saw the introduction of the Mad Titan himself, Thanos. It also saw the formation of a new superhero team. The main lineup for the Guardians are Starlord, Gamora, Drax, Groot, and Rocket. Nobody thought that this film would be a hit because of the talking raccoon, and yet it remains one of the most critically acclaimed entries in the MCU. The only drawback to this film is that the main antagonist was generic and hammy. -
Avengers: Age Of Ultron
Avengers Age of Ultron is the sequel to the first Avengers film that was released in 2012. The film had a lot to live up to after the success of Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America The Winter Soldier. It is widely considered to be inferior to the last Avenger movie. One of the biggest complaints is the forced romance between Black Widow and Bruce Banner, as well as having too many characters and plotlines happening at once. -
Ant Man
The last Phase Two movie saw the introduction of Scott Lang as the titular hero. This film had a lot of great humor as well as great character interactions. Much like Age of Ultron however, it also had a forced romance between the two main leads. The villain was also considered to be incredibly lame and generic. Regardless though, the film was still a success and a great way to close off the second phase. -
Captain America: Civil War
Phase Three begins with the fall of the Avengers. In Captain America Civil War, the Avengers turn on each other after Steve's friend Bucky is framed for bombing a UN conference. The main villain in this movie is Helmut Zemo, who blames the Avengers for the death of his family and wants revenge. Civil War also brought Spiderman into the MCU, who would later star in his own film a year later. -
Doctor Strange
The next entry would introduce magic in the MCU. Benedict Cumberbatch, best known for playing Sherlock, would play a wizard in this movie. The film has a lot of great visual effects in it. It also would tie into the next Thor movie as well as Avengers Infinity War. -
Guradians of the Galaxy Vol.2
The sequel to the first Guardians of the Galaxy film. Much like the first movie, the humor was on point and had a lot of great classical music. The main villain this time around was Ego, who was a living planet trying to take over the universe. -
Spiderman Homecoming
After the disaster that was The Amazing Spiderman 2, Marvel was able to bring us the best Spiderman film since Spiderman 2 (2004). Tom Holland becomes the third actor to play everyones favorite webslinger. Compared to the last few movies, Spiderman Homecoming was a bit more lighthearted. Micahel Keaton also plays the Vulture in this movie, who is widely considered to be one of the best villains in the MCU. -
Thor Ragnarok
The third installment in the Thor series, this film decided to go for a more wackier approach. Almost none of the the supporting characters from the previous film return in this movie, and the ones that do are killed off within five seconds. Thor Ragnarok is widely regarded to be the best Thor movie for focusing less on the humans from Earth, and more on the cosmic side of the MCU. The film also brought in the Hulk for good measure. -
Black Panther
To this day it remains one of the highest rated films in the MCU. Black Panther originally appeared in Captain America Civil War before finally getting his own feature film. The cinematography in this film was phenomenal. Once again the villain in this movie had a lot of depth as well as a sympathetic backstory. -
Avengers Infinity War
A universe once and for all, Avengers Infinity War was a decade in the making. Thanos, who appeared at the end of the first Avengers film, finally makes his move and proceeds to wipe out half of all life across the universe. This was the biggest crossover event in cinema, with over forty names characters across several different movies. The film would also gross over 2 billion dollars at the box office, making it the fourth highest grossing film of all time. -
Ant Man and the Wasp
The sequel to the first Ant Man. Paul Rudd reprises his role as Ant Man alongside Evangeline Lily as the Wasp. The events of this film occurs right before Infinity War, which means that everyone is still alive. The movie was a moderate success for Marvel, and considered to be some much needed levity after the traumatic events of the last film.
