Lieutenant General Sir Henry Clinton led the British and General Benjamin Lincoln was in charge of the Americans at Charleston. This battle was the greatest American defeat in the war, after the surrender there was no organized opposition to the British in South Carolina. -

Major Patrick Ferguson led the British and Colonel Isaac Shelby and Colonel John Seiver led the Americans. Cornwallis withdrew from North Carolina after this battle and they Loyalist forces were almost completely destroyed after the battle. -
