    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    Thomas Gage, Lieutenant Colonel Francis Smith, and Major John Pitcairn led the British. Captain John Parker and Lord Hugh Percy led the militia. These battles helped the Americans confidence in the milita against the British army.
  • Battle at Fort Ticonderoga

    Battle at Fort Ticonderoga
    Benedict Arnold and Ethan Allen led the milita and the green mountain boys. Captain William Delaplace led the British stationed at the fort. The Americans got more firepower to defeat the British after this battle
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Colonel William Prescott led the colonists and General William Howe led the British army. The British suffered many casualties and it made the Americans believe they didn't need a permanent military establishment.

    General George Washington led the Americans and General William Howe and Lord Cornwallis led the British. The British left New Jersey after these battles.

    General John Burgoyne led the British and Horatio Gates, Benedict Arnold and General Benjamin Lincoln led the Americans. This battle made Burgoyne surrender and uplifted the morale of the rest of the American soldiers and it also brought the French into the war.

    Lieutenant General Sir Henry Clinton led the British and General Benjamin Lincoln was in charge of the Americans at Charleston. This battle was the greatest American defeat in the war, after the surrender there was no organized opposition to the British in South Carolina.

    Major Patrick Ferguson led the British and Colonel Isaac Shelby and Colonel John Seiver led the Americans. Cornwallis withdrew from North Carolina after this battle and they Loyalist forces were almost completely destroyed after the battle.

    Lord Cornwallis led the British and George Washington led the Americans. Cornwallis surrender and this battle ended the war.
