Marylin Monroe was born on June 1st, 1926 in Los Angeles, California. Her birth name was Norma Jean Mortenson and she grew up in foster care because her widowed mother was unable to support her due to a mental illness. There is very little mentioned in her early life, though it is recorded that she moved in and out of many foster homes and there were instances of childhood abuse from her guardians.

Marriage to Jimmy Dougherty
In order to escape the life in foster homes, Marilyn Monroe married her boyfriend, Jimmy Dougherty, at the age of 16. This relationship, however, didn't last very long. Jimmy was a U.S. Merchant Marine and he was sent to war in the South Pacific. Eventually, once he returns from war about 4 years laster, they will obtain a divorce.

The Family Circle
Marilyn Monroe's first appearance on a national magazine cover was for The Family Circle. She is seen wearing Dorothy's dress from The Wizard of Oz while playing with a little lamb and smiling at the camera. Although her photo was uncredited, this debut got her recognized and she signed her first contract with Twentieth Century-Fox about four months later. This was when she officially changed her name to a more appropriate screen name: Marilyn Monroe.

Death
Marilyn Monroe died on August 5th, 1962 when she was only 36 years-old. According to the reports, she was found dead in her bed due to acute barbiturate poisoning, which appeared to be a suicide. It is noted that the days before her death, Marilyn Monroe was heavily depressed and dependent on drugs, which got her into trouble with her acting career.
