    After completeing secondary school with honors in 1883, Marie Curie wanted to move on. She was denied being allowed to attened college after she finished school. Marie Curie moved to Paris to leave hospitality. Curie started to attend the University of Paris.

    In 1903 Marie Curie won a shared Nobel Prize in physics with Henri Becquerel and Pierre Currie, due to their work on the development of radioactivity. She became the first female to receive this prestigise award. The three used their prize money to continue their research.

    In 1903 Curie was the first female to win a Nobel prize, but in 1911 she became the first person to win two Nobel Prizes. This second Nobel Prize was received alone, but she credited her husband in her accetance speech. This Nobel Prize was rewarded to her for her discoveries of radium and polonium.

    World War I broke out in 1914. Curie devoted herself to helping during the war. Her portable X-ray machaines or "Little Curies" were used to dave many lives in the war. Marie Curie became a celebrity to the people and used her support to help gain money to establish a radium research institute.

    World War I began in 1914 with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. During the conflict, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire went against Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Romania, Japan and the United States. The war ultimatley ended in 1918 with a victory for the Allied Powers.

    On October 4, 1929 the United States stock market crashed. The economy reached it's lowest of lows in 1933 leaving many people unemployed. The economy hadn't begun to be restored until 1942.

    On July 4, 1934 Marie Curie died in Savory, France. Her death was caused by the affects of her research on radiation. Tis was the first time we saw what constant exposure of radiation to a person could do.
