After Marie graduated, she wanted to go and study medicine at a better school than she had been at. She then started to attend Sorbonne, and she spent much of her time in the labratory, She had high ambitions in science, but she was very quiet, and knew that she might not be good enough for that. She got her 2nd masters degree in mathematics, which is very important because this now gave her the right skills to suceed in science, what she really wanted all along. (Marie Curie, 11)
  • Marie gets married to Pierre.

Pierre was a brilliant physican, and he worked in the same labratory that Marie did. Pierre fell in love with Marie, and they got married on July 26th, 1895. Pierre was a very important part of Marie's life, he helped her accomplish the goals that she had. with their combined money, they gathered their resources and with barely a proper labratory, and discovered radium. She probablywouldnt have been able to do this without his help, and he was a great partner. (Marie Curie, 26)
  • Marie Curie Discovers Radium

In the spring of 1898, Marie Curie discovered the radioactive radium in her maskeshift lab. She had been testing for radioactivity in elements like salts, oxides, and compounds. She her used electrometer to test for this. Once she found raidum, she gained fame from this great discovery. (Marie Curie, 40)
  • Marie Earns a Doctorate in Physics

In June, she recieved her doctorate in physics. This is significant because no other women has ever recieved a doctorate in physics, for discovering radium. (http://www.livescience.com, Radioactive)
  • Panama declares independence from Colombia

Paname declared independence from Colombia with the help of the US governement. They also had problems getting complete control of the Panama Canal, and they finally got control in 1999. (http://www.history.com, Panama declares independence)
  • Marie wins the Nobel Prize

With Marie being recognized with this prize, it gave the Curie's some extra money to update their lab some more, so that they could try more experiements, and try to learn more about raidum. Without this extra money, they might have not been able to support their family, or get the necessary equipment that they needed to keep experiementing. It also gave them high popularity in all the scientists in the world.
