In 1785, Diamond necklace situation permanently ruined the Queen's reputation. A thief pretending to be Marie Antoinette stole a 647 – diamond necklace and took it to London to be sold in peices. Although, she was innocent and had nothing to do with the situation, she was guilty in the peoples eyes. -
Attempt to Escape
Marie Antoinette and Axel Von Fersen attempted to escape France in June, 1791. They were trying to save the French monarchy. The royal family was captured and returned to France. -
Arrest
In September in 1792, after the massacres in Paris the national convention destroyed the monarchy. They declared establishment of a French Republic. In result, they arrested the king and queen, Louis XVI and Marie Antionette.
