  • 5th Stage of Erickson's theory, Identity vs Role Confusion

    Margaret (age 16) married Gregorio (age 28).

    adolescents transition into adulthood and struggle to find their identity within societal norms. Margaret willingly sought her identity through marriage. If she was reluctant and unwilling, it may have caused Margaret to become confused, pushing her towards Isolation in the 9th stage of development.
  • 6th Stage of Erickson's Theory Intimacy versus Isolation, between the ages of 19 and 40

    Margaret (age 21) is married with four children.
    The central conflict at this stage of life centers on forming intimate, loving relationships with individuals. A struggle at this stage can result in feelings of loneliness and isolation.
    Margaret chose intimacy and formed a loving relationship through marriage. Over a span of four years, Margaret formed a deep bond with her husband through intimacy and had four children.
  • Stage 7, Middle Adulthood (between the ages of 40-65), generativity and stagnation or self-absorption

    Margaret 42, Volunteer for 15 years with Young Lives, an organization that helps young teen moms.
    According to Erickson's theory, people feel a sense of care and responsibility if they pass on learned knowledge to others.
    People may be challenged if they lack the compassion to pass on their knowledge and care. Individuals may live contemptuously and feel bitter about not excelling in their lives.
    Margaret, gave back to her community by helping young teen mothers.
