    The Long March Begins
    The Long March Began in 1934 and ended in 1935 (Wakin 35). The Long March was part of a civil war between the Nationalists and the Comunists for control of China. Mao led the Communists and used the strategy of confusion to lead his people. ("The Lon March")

    Long March Ends
    The Long March was the longest march in the history of warfare. Mao originally had 700,000 people when he started the journey, but by the time he finished he only had 4,000. The Long March Ended in 1935 when they reached the Great Wall of China.

    In 1949 Mao declared China; The People's Republic of China (Fritz 113). He made China a communist country and he became the most powerful country. Mao did this because he wanted everyone to be equal and in communism everything is shared by everyone.

    The USSR launches the first satellite
    On October 4, 1954 the Solviet Union launched the first satellite. It was called the Sputnik. It was the size of a beach ball ad orbited earth.

    The Great Leap Forward was attempted in 1958. Mao believed that if the country only focused on industry and agriculture, then their economy would grow and someday be better than The United States. He split the people up into communes and made them work. The Great Leap Forward failed and lots of people starved.

    Mao Resigned
    In 1959 Mao resigned from being the head of the government. He resigned after The Great Leap Forward failed. Even though he resigned, he still kept his position as the head of the Communit Party. (Wakin 33)

    The Red Guard was formed
    Mao created the Red Guard in 1966. They were used to help Mao get rid of all the people against revolution and all the traditional people. They tried to eliminate all of the old culture in China. (Red Guards)
  • The Red Guard disbands

    The Red Guard disbands
    The Red Guard split up in 1968.(Poule 94). The government convinced the Red Gaurd to split up to restore order to China. At one point there was over 11 million members. The Red Guard was removed after they started overthrowing towns.

    Mao Dies
    Mao died on September 9, 1976. Mao had Parkinson's diesease. He died still holding the position of Chairman of the Comunist Party.
