    Journey to Mecca(started 1324, ended by 1325)

    In Mansa Musa's 14th year of reign he set out on his journey to Mecca. On his journey he was accompanied by 60, 000 men, 12,000 of which were slaves. Five hundred of those slaves followed him with staffs of solid gold weighing 4 pounds each. Also 80-100 camels with 300 pounds of gold came along. Instead of walking, Mansa Musa rode horseback to Mecca. It was a long journey, but after over 1/2 a year Mansa Musa and his men made it to Mecca.
