  • Hudson Bay land sale

    In 1868 the Hudson Bay company made the largest land sale in history selling it to the Dominion of Canada without consulting any of its indigenous inhabitants including the Métis
  • The Red River Métis called for Independence

    On a day in October in 1869, the Red River Métis call for an Independent Métis republic to be formed.
  • A Métis government is formed

    After 120 men seized Upper Fort Gary in November, on December 8th, 1869, a provisional government of both English-Speaking and French-Speaking Métis was formed.
  • Thomas Scott execution

    After escaping prison, Thomas Scott was arrested and tried and convicted of treason of by a six-man council. He was executed by a firing squad on March 4th, 1870.
  • The Manitoba Act

    The Manitoba Act came law and was passed by the Parliament of Canada and received Royal Assent on May 12 1870.
  • Louis Riel Execution

    During the Northwest resistance Louis Riel was arrested and convicted of treason. He was eventually executed. It is thought that Riel's execution is in retaliation for Thomas Scott's execution
  • Louis Riel gets recognition

    After 120 years on March 10, 1992, Ottawa officially recognized Loui Riel as the founder of Manitoba.
