There were political, social, and economic reasons for spreading west. For political reasons, there was a war. The Americans and Mexicans were fighting for land in Texas. Americans were trying to expand and make more land. There was the Oregon treaty, ad the homestead act. social reasons, The Americans were hungry for land and they had to start over to expand. They wanted to expand Christianity. For economics, they wanted more cities, they fur- trapped and increases populations with farms/trade.
