Estates General
King Louis XIV Summoned this group to suggest solutions to the government’s finical problems. The group represented the nobility, the church, and the common people. -
The Tennis Court Oath
The third estate broke the estates general and decided to start their own group and call themselves “The National Assembly.” The were locked out of their original meeting room so they met in a tennis court and pledged that they wouldn’t leave until there was a new constitution in France. -
the storming of the Bastille
A mob got a hold of guns and canons and stormed the Bastille tearing it down brick by brick with no guard left alive. -
The Great Fear
Rumors spread and people got nervous, arming themselves and in some areas attacked manor houses. -
The Declaration of the Rights of Man
The declaration said that all men have equal rights and that the purpose of the government is to preserve those rights -
Woman's March to Versailles
Women and some men came demanding for bread for their families and met with the king. The king promised to the crowd that he would give them bread and never did. Woman got so angry the tore down the gate and charged after the kings wife Marie Antoinette but she got away. -
Escape to Varennes
Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette tried to escape Paris failed, and were sent to the guillotine. -
Constitution of 1791
This Constitution meant the creation of a French constitutional monarchy. -
Brunswick Manifesto
The Brunswick Manifesto threatened that if the French royal family was harmed, then French civilians would be harmed. It was a measure intended to intimidate Paris but instead helped spread the revolution. -
National Convention
it was used to draft its consitution. -
Reign of Terror
The purpose of the Reign of Terror was to clear France of enemies of the Revolution and protect the country from foreign invaders. -
Directory
The directory was five Directors that held executive power in France following the Convention and preceding the Consulate. -
Napoleon takes over
A plebiscite, or vote of the people, was held where the people overwhelmingly for the new Constitution which gave all real power to Napoleon as the first consul. -
Concordat of 1801
The Concordat of 1801 was an agreement between Napoleon and Pope Pius VII. -
Louisiana Purchase
Napoleon Bonaparte decided to sell the Louisiana Territory to the United States. It doubled the size of the young country and secured the much wanted port of New Orleans, and expanding trade for states bordering the Mississippi. -
The Napoleonic Code
The Napoleonic Code is the French civil code. The code forbidden privileges based on birth, allowed freedom of religion, and specified that government jobs go to the most qualified. -
Napoleaon becomes emperor
Napoleon was a French military and political leader during the latter stages of the French Revolution. To help solidify himself as the undisputed ruler of France, Napoleon decided to go one step further than Consul for Life and had Pope Pius VII crown him Emperor of France. -

The Peninsular War was a war fought between France and Spain, the United Kingdom, and Portugal for control of the Iberian Peninsula during the Napoleonic Wars. -
Invasion of Russia
The invasion of Russia was a turning point in the Napoleonic Wars. It reduced the French and allied invasion forces to a tiny fraction of their original strength and made a major shift in European politics as it weakened French leadership in Europe. -

In this battle, the forces of the French Empire under the leadership of Michael Ney and Napoleon Bonaparte were defeated by the Prussian Army, which was commanded by Gebhard Von Blucher.
