Malcolm Little is arrested
Malcolm was sentenced to prison for 10 years for burglary. While in prison he began to change his life. His family kept him informed of the Black Muslim movement, and he began studying and practicing the teachings of Elijah Muhammad. The ideas are that the white man is evil and black people should seperate themselves from Western white civilization. -
Malcolm Little becomes Malcom X
Malcolm was released from prison and went to meet Elijah Muhammad, the leader of the Black Muslims. Malcolm was accepted into the religion and given the name Malcolm X. He became the assistant minister of a Detroit Mosque. -
Suspension
Malcolm was suspened for speaking in the Black Muslim movement for 90 days, after his comments abouts JFK's assassination. -
Malcolm leaves the Black Muslims
Malcolm was one of the greatest figures in the Black Muslim movement, but he left the group to start the Muslim Mosque, Inc. and the Organization of Afro-American Unity. He still remained a follower of the Islamic religion. -
Malcolm's name changes a final time
After leaving the Black Muslims, Malcolm took several trips to Europe, Africa, and one trip to Mecca. He said that after these trips he no longer believed all white men were evil and that he had found the true meaning of Islam. He then changed his name to El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz. -
Malcom X dies
Malcolm X was assassinated at a meeting in Harlem.
