The First Floppy Disk
The floppy disk was the first "memory disk", invented by Alan Shugart, who led IBM engeeners at the time. It was an 8-inch flexible plastic disk coated with magnetic iron oxide; computer data was written to and read from the disk's surface. -
The First Cell Phone
The inventor was Martin Cooper, and at the time he was working as general manager of Motorola's Communications Systems Division. The first call, placed to Cooper's rival at AT&T's Bell Labs from the streets of New York City, caused a fundamental technology and communications market shift toward the person and away from the place. -
The First Laptop
It was named Epson HX-20, and it wheighed 1.6 kg. It did not do much from writing, printing and calculate numbers. -

It was created by Tim Berners-Lee, the World Wide Web's creator, who at the time worked for the CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research). The website was a "tutorial" for how to set up a web page, about the World Wide Web project and how to research information online. -

First mp3 Player
Manufactured by Korea's Saehan Information Systems, the device was launched in March of 1998 at CeBIT, and went on sale in the Summer through Eiger Labs for $250. The player featured 32MB of flash memory (which could be upgraded to 64MB via mail-in scheme), connected to PCs via parallel port, and had a miniscule LCD for playback info. -
the first USB flash drive
IBM's USB flash drive became available on December 15, 2000 and had a storage capacity of 8 MB, more than five times the capacity of the then-common floppy disks. -
