  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Battle of Stalingrad
    successful Soviet defense of the city of Stalingrad. Russians consider it to be one of the greatest battles of their Great Patriotic War, and most historians consider it to be the greatest battle of the entire conflict. It stopped the German advance into the Soviet Union and marked the turning of the tide of war in favour of the Allies.
  • Battle of Dunkirk

    Battle of Dunkirk
    During the Battle of Dunkirk some 338,000 British Expeditionary Force (BEF) and other Allied troops were evacuated from Dunkirk to England as German forces closed in on them. The massive operation, involving hundreds of naval and civilian vessels, became known as the “Miracle of Dunkirk” and served as a turning point for the Allied war effort. 22,000 allied troops were killed and around 2,000 civilians lost their lives. The German military suffered around 20,000 casualties

  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    conflict between the United States and the Empire of Japan. The United States mounted an amphibious invasion of the island of Iwo Jima as part of its Pacific campaign against Japan. A costly victory for the United States, the battle was one of the bloodiest in the history of the U.S. Marine Corps and was cited as proof of the Japanese military’s willingness to fight to the last man. Nearly 7,000 U.S. Marines were killed. Another 20,000 were wounded. 216 japanese captured the rest were killed.
  • Battle of Berlin

    One of the last battles of WW2, and it ended with the fall of Berlin to the Soviet Red Army, which took revenge for the suffering of the Soviet people since 1941. Soviet military was left with heavy casualties of over 80,000 dead and German deaths were at least 92,000 and possibly as high as 100,000.
