Many blamed Serbia for the attack on the archduke and his wife. This led to Austria-Hungry threatning Serbia. Once this happened, countries came to Serbia's aid and countries joined the fight against Serbisa. This was the beggining of WWI. -

Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia to start WWI
The declaration of war is released and the war officially begins. This event starts the war that would test the military strenght of all countries involved. -
Battle of the Marne
The Battle of the Marne was the first major battle in WWI. This battle was considered a major victory for the Allies, who had somehow held off the incredible German army and forced them to fight from two sides. This was nearly impossible for Germany. -
The Race to The Sea
Both armies attempted to beat the northern flank of the opposing army, this resulted in a "race to the sea". This led both armies to the coast of Belgium where they then ensued in trench warfare. This decision changed the course of the war from one type of fighting to trench warfare. -
Sinking of RMS Lusitania
The sinking of a ship containing over a thousand innocent civilians led to anger throughout the american population. This put pressure on the president to join in the war, which America eventually did. -
Germany resumes Unrestricted Submarine Warfare
President Wilson is outraged by the acts of violence against America, to say the least. This angers all of America and leads to America's enterance into the war. -
Germany knocks Russia out of the war (Treaty of Brest-Litovsk)
This treaty pulled Russia out of the war with the promise of land. This allowed Germans to focus purely on the Western front, giving them greater chances at winning the war. -
"Spring Offensive"
This was a series of German attacks along the western front. America had joined in the fight which further weakened Germans and now they had lost many, many soldiers. -
Meuse-Argonne Offensive
This was the largest American battle in WWI. This battle was a great victory and led to the surrender of the German army. -
Armistice ends hostilities
The signing of the Armistice marks the end of WWI. The Treaty of Versailles, signed about half a year later, would act as a peace treaty between the nations involved. The terms of the agreement made it nearly impossible of Germany to start another war.
