    • Nicknamed the 900 day siege for how long the event was.
    • Germany approached from the South/West while Finnish troops moved in from the North to box them in.
    • The siege claimed the lives of 650,000 Russians, mostly as a result of starvation and disease.
    • In January 1944, a Soviet offense drove back German troops and ended the siege.
