    There weren't enough ships so leaders had to call on civilians to lend any boats they had to save soldiers.
    The RAF successfully held off the Luftwaffe to help save soldiers.
    The battle ended on June 4th, 1940.
  • Battle of Britain

    Battle of Britain
    On June 17, 1940, France signed an armistice and quit the war.
    This was the first all air battle in history.
    Germany was weakened because they had no navy left, their army was unprepared for any water attacks, and the Luftwaffe suffered a heavy loss in the west.
    Britain lost 21% of their RAF fighter pilots and Germany lost 16% of their Luftwaffe's fighter pilots.
    More than 1,700 Luftwaffe planes were destroyed.
    This battle ended on October 31, 1940.

    The battle of Leningrad lasted around 900 days.
    More than one million citizens died.
    More than one millions citizens had to be evacuated.

    The Soviets successfully defended the city of Stalingrad from the Germans.
    Many historians considered this battle the greatest battle of the entire war.
    This battle marked the spot of the war where the tide was turned in the favor of the allies.
    It was one of the bloodiest battles in history with around two million soldiers and civilians dying.
    The Soviets remained mainly on the offensive side of war after this battle because Stalin's confidence grew in his army.
    This battle ended on Feb 2 1943.

    Operation Torch was the name given to the Allied invasion of French North Africa.
    It was the first time the British and American soldiers had worked on an invasion together.
    It only lasted two days.
    Some British leaders were at first against this attack.
    65,000 soldiers were involved in this attack.
    This battle ended on November 10, 1942.

    156,000 soldiers invaded beaches along the coast of Frances's Normandy region.
    It was the beginning of the end of the war.
    It was planned for June 5th but there was bad weather so they delayed it to June 6th.
    Around 4,000 soldiers died on D-Day.
    The beaches were fully secured withing a week of the invasion.
    This only lasted one day, June 6th, 1944

    The goal was to split the allies and launch a surprise blitzkrieg attack.
    The battle got its name from how the German lines bulged into the Adrienne.
    The Germans used more than 250,000 soldiers.
    Over 100,000 soldiers died.
    This battle was the last major offensive attack by Germany in WWII.
    This battle ended on January 25, 1944.

    Battle of Berlin
    The Soviets had around 2,500,000 soldiers while Germany only had around 1,000,000 soldiers.
    Germany's soldiers were very ill-equipped for this battle because their soldiers were sick, wounded, or starving.
    This was the last battle of WWII.
    Hitler knew he was gonna lose so he committed suicide along with his wife.
    The Nazi leaders signed an unconditional surrender on May 7th, 1945.
    This battle ended on May 2nd, 1945.
