  • Battle of France/Miracle of Dunkirk

    Battle of France/Miracle of Dunkirk
    Germany trapped France and other allies in using the Blitzkrieg strategy. This battle ended fighting on the western front for a time period. Italy declared war on the Allies Civilians helped the cause in evacuating thousands of soldiers from Dunkirk. The battle ended in a cease fire from France.
  • Battle of Britain

    The code name for Hitler's operation was Operation Sea Lion. 1,000 British planes were lost and 1,800 German planes were lost. Hitler was spending to much time on Britain and stopped the operation so his pilots could bomb Russia. Most of the bombing occurred during the night so the planes were hidden. Britian's air force was called the RAF or Royal Air Force.

    Was a joined British-American invasion on North Africa. Fighting went on for two day but then the French surrendered. The whole goal of this campaign was to force the Axis out of Africa which they did in 1943. Was British idea because they didn't think they were strong enough to take Germany through France. Germany sent backup after the battle to try to take back the land..

    Battle of Stalingard
    Germany invaded Russia causing this battle without a declaration of war. The battle took place inside of houses and hand to hand combat was quite often. The constant bombing and warm weather as well as being trapped inside buildings lead to the overwhelming fact that this battle was deadly. Happened throughout the whole city not one part of the city didn't have fighting. Germany was supported by the Luftwaffe the whole time.

    Siege of Lenningrad
    The German “blockade” claimed over 650,000 Leningrader lives in 1942. The blockade lasted for almost three years causing mass death ad hunger. In total 1.5 million citizens died. The Soviets eventually broke the blockade and got supplies to the remaining survivors. Germany shelled the city the whole time causing humiliation of the Soviets.

    Allied forces landed on the beaches of France's Normandy Region. The main goal of this attack was to gin ground in Germany to eventually liberate Germany. 5,000 ships were used to haul men onto the beaches. The Allies did win the Battle of Normandy but at a very high cost. The Allied troops had to rush up the beaches and onto the German fortification. The Germans were using high powered weapons and killing many men.

    Was the largest battle fought on the Western Front during WWII. Germany last offensive in WWII. The allies lost 300 planes and tanks in this battle. After this battle Germany would retreat back to the same lines and defend for the remainder of the war. Dwight Eisenhower played a key role in the strategy behind this battle/
  • Battle of Berlin

    Battle of Berlin
    Last major WWII battle. Stalin wanted to reach Berlin before the other Allies so he could gain land back. Stalin's plan was to surround Berlin then attack the bunker where the leaders were hiding out. Adolf Hitler committed suicide before soldiers could get to him so he wasn't punished and questioned about his choices. 80,000 Soviet troops died liberating Germany.
