Battle of France
The fall of France lead to an evacuation known as the miracle of Dunkirk. The Germans used Lightning war as their tactic.There were 523,000 casualties. Mussolini declared war on June 10th against the allies. 191,000 allied troops evacuated. -
Battle of Britain
It was the Royal Air Force against Luftwaffe. This was Hitlers Invasion plan called Operation Sea Lion. 1,000 British planes were shot down and over 1,800 German planes were destroyed. The Nazi's bombed London and the Royal Air Force took over the sky's. Using the radar to their advantage Britain had won the battle. -
Battle of Leningrad
Also called 900-day siege, over a million citizens had died. The Germans had planned to quickly starve and freeze the city. Over a million people had tried to evacuate, but bombs were constantly being dropped upon them. -
Battle of Stalingrad
This battle had turned the tide into the favors of the allies. About 40,000 soviet civilians had lost their lives. 91,000 of Hitlers troops were forced to surrender. Their were continuous bombs being dropped onto the city killing thousands. The groups which had defended Stalingrad were made up by a good chunk of women who played a huge role. -
Operation Torch
This was the First time that America and Great Britain had worked together on an invasion which they had decided to invade North Africa. Due to miscommunication the French had fired upon our troops which caused the French to surrender. Hitler saw the casualties and used it to his advantage to take over. -
D-Day
The allies had invaded Northern France. Over 160,000 allied troops had invaded, overwhelming the Germans. It was the largest naval, air, and land invasion in history, wit an estimation of 10,000 casualties. -
Battle of the Bulge
Largest battle ever fought by the U.S army. The Germans had conducted a large attack catching the allies off guard. German troops had also stolen U.S Army Uniforms to get behind lines. The Germans had used the weather to their advantage which was a success. The Germans had ran out of fuel which allowed for the allies to put them back in their place. -
Battle of Berlin
It was a battle between the Soviet Union and the Germans. It was the last major battle during WWII. The most explosives which had been dropped on the allies had happened during this war on April 20th. The Russians were anxious to gain land. Stalin had planned to completely surround Berlin then attack.
