Winston Churchill wass appointed Prime Minister of Great Britain
Canada was anxious when Churchill was first appointed but, Churchill proved himself and eventually the Canadian government trusted him. -
Battle of the Britain
When German planes attacked British radio towers, Britain retaliated and sent planes in the sky to attack the German planes. Some of the pilots who fought against Germany were in fact Canadian. -
The siege of Tobruk
This battle was between the Axis and the Allies in Tobruk. It lasted 241 days but, eventually British and Canadian troops advanced through Bardia and captured Tobruk from Axis. -
The attack on Pearl Harbor
The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor (an American military base in Hawaii). As a result America declared war on Japan. Canada also declared war on Japan the next day. -
Britain and Canada humiliated by the Japanese
100,000 troops occupied Singapore, among them were Canadian and British. It was thought of as a strong military island but, the Japanese came and took it from Britain and Canada in just two days. -
USA and Canada win the battle of Midway in the Pacific
The US were faced against a strong Japanese naval army. The US would have a hard time beating the Japanese if it wasn't for the Canadians. The Canadians came with soldiers and aircraft carriers and succesfully helped the US defeat the Japanese force. -
The attack of Canadian and British troops to capture Italy
Canadians landed on the shore of Sicily and advanced upwards to Italy. They faced mine fields and Germans shooting at them. Closely following were the British troops as well. Their courage helped them to break through enemy lines and advance to Adrano. They then went on to capture Italy. -
D-Day
The Allies had to claim Normandy, France. Candian and British soldiers came to the shore with boats and tried to make an advance. Canadian's used paratroopers from planes to try and land on the shore. Eventually the Allies captured Normandy but, there were too many casualties to count. -
Atomic bomb drop on Hiroshima
The Allies decided to end the war between them and Japan as soon as possible. So they got a Canadian made atomic bomb and dropped it on the city of Hiroshima, Japan. The creators of the bomb used uranium from Great Bear Lake. After the bomb was dropped, Japan surrendered.
