Significant Battles of the Revolution

  • Lexington and Concord

    Parliament rejected Colonists and the Colonists were ready for a war. British commander sent troops from Boston to Lexington and Concord to take Colonists gun powder and weapons. At Lexington, Colonists refused to back down and this was when the first gunshots were fired. Redcoats won this and headed on to Concord. At Concord Colonists hid and then ambushed the Red Coats. After this Battle British had won one and Colonists had won one.
  • Bunker Hill

    British planned to take two hills for a tactical advantage, America heard about it and took the hills before. America killed many British soldiers. British conquered the hills, but America won overall because of the amount of soldiers they killed.

    Early Battles

  • Battle of Trenton

    Washington decided to strike to improve confidence in his soldiers and surprise British. His plan was to surprise british, take supplies, and bring back Americas morals. He wanted to take his army on a ferry across the Delaware and attack German soldiers working for British at Trenton. Washington defeated them.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    British came to battle with America but they were too confident. Americans stand their ground and fight and won the battle. British was humiliated and France decided to join the war against Britain.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    French and Americans worked together and met British at the Chesapeake Bay. Cornwallis surrendered entire force of 7,000 men. Fighting continued a year after this battle, but America eventually got independence from Britain.
