This battle was the equivalent to Midway for the eastern front. After Hitler's defeat in Moscow he was still confident he could take Russia. When the weather calmed the Nazi's tried for Stalingrad. Fighting through urban environments proved a challenge for them. The Russians were able to hold the city until winter. -
Battle of Midway
Japanese attacked midway but the Americans cracked a code so they knew about it before it happened. This was a major dogfight in the war. Having midway paved the attack on Guadalcanal for the allies. -
Battle of Guadalcanal
On the 7th of August, 11,000 marines of the 1st Marine Division under the command of Major General Alexander Vandergrift landed on Guadalcanal. -
Operation Overload
Operation Overload commenced with the Normandy landing in June of 1944. By August there were 3 million allied troops in France. This is the operation that took by France from Germany. -
