Lexington and Concord
The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. British commander in Boston sent troops to seize stores of gunpowder. At Lexington, the Minute Men refused to disperse. Shots were fired killing eight Americans and wounding several more. Redcoats then pushed on to Concord, where they were ambushed and suffered a heavy loss. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
The Colonists sought out delay a British attack but instead provoked one. The British had planned to launch a massive attack on the 18th to seize the two promontories over looking the city but were surprised when the met the colonies. Americans mowed down the British but they soon ran out of ammo and they retreated. Still it was a victory for the colonists. -
Battle of Trenton
On December 16th, Washington stealthily crossed the Delaware River. He and his men then surprised and captured over 1000 Hessians. -
Battle of Saratoga
The Battle of Saratoga occurred from September to October of 1777. It included two major battles and was a decisive victory for the Continental Army and a crucial turning point for the War. The battle of Saratoga gave the Patriots a major morale boost and persuaded the French, Spanish, and Dutch to join them against their mutual rival. -
Battle of Yorktown
The French Navy and the Continental Army conceived a daring plan to in trap Cornwallis in Yorktown. The plan worked. Cornwallis surrendered Yorktown and three weeks later the war was over.
