Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu or also known as Mother Teresa of Calcuta, was born on August 26th, 1910 in Albania. -
Studies and Travel
When she was a child, she went to “Marian Congregation of the Daughters of Mary” where she started the activity of assistance to the needy.
When she was only eighteen years old she left her city and went to Dublín to join in the “Congregation of Our Lady of Loreto”. -
Calcuta
As she wanted to be a missionary in India, she embarked to Bengal, where she studied teaching and chose the name Teresa to practice.
When the vows were made, she went to Calcutta. For twenty years she worked as a teacher at St. Mary's High School in Calcutta. She felt very sad when she observed in the streets. So she told- Pius XII that she wanted to leave the order and dedicate to the cause of the needy. -

So, in 1947, after the independence of India, Rome authorized Teresa to dedicate herself to the poor. -
“Congregation of the Missionaries of Charity”
While she was studying nurse with the “Missionary Medical Sisters of Patna”, Teresa of Calcutta opened her first help center for children. In 1950, she created the “Congregation of the Missionaries of Charity”. She helped thousands of poor and dying people -
Nobel Peace Prize
The Holy See appointed her as a representative to the United Nations World Conference held in Mexico in 1975, where she formulated her ideology based on action on organizations. Four years later, she received the Nobel Peace Prize. -
Malaria
In 1992 she contracted malaria in New Delhi, a disease that complicated her heart.
After severe crisis, she gave her position as superior to Sister Nirmala, a Hindu converted to Christianity. -
Death
After celebrating her 87th birthday, she was admitted to the intensive care unit in Kolkata, where she passed away. Thousands of people from all over the world went to India to see her off. -
Beatification
In October 2003, Mother Teresa of Calcutta was beatified in a great mass to which they were faithful from all over the world. At the end of 2015, the Vatican approved her canonization -
