  • Women's Right to Vote

    Women's Right to Vote
    19th ammendment, or Susan B. Anthony ammendment, grants universal women's suffrage.This was a large step in the way of equality, particularly since some Canadian provinces had already given women the right to vote by this time.
  • American Professional Football Conference

    American Professional Football Conference
    This was the beginning of professional football passed the college level. Due to the rise in spectator sports, college football became a prime sport to watch with heroes like Knute Rockne. Because of this rise in spectator's the American Professional Football Conference was formed, late changing its name to the National Football League in 1922. This represents the change in spectator sports during the 1920's and the impact the people had on things like sports and leisure.
  • The Lincoln Memorial

    The Lincoln Memorial
    This started the tradition of the ceremony at the Memorial on Lincoln's birthday. Lincoln's last survivng son was there the day the memorial was dedicated to the great service of the 16th president. This was very important for the United States as Lincoln is definitely one of their greatest presidents and did much to help the country thrive and continue to grow to get to this point in history.

    Premiere of Phonofilm
    This was a large step in American entertainment. The phonofilm introduced sound-on-film, which lead to 'talkies' or movies. Movies were a large part of American lives in the 1920's as most money for entertainment was spent on movies. 3/4 of Americans went to the movies at least once a week.

    Hoover appointed to FBI
    Hoover was apppointed director of the Bureau of Investigation, later founding the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He is the one responsible for creating the upstanding reputation that the FBI is known for today. He also instituted technology such as the centralized fingerprint file and forensic labratory (although not in the 20's). Although this was not a well celebrated event then, now Hoover is a well known and idolized figure.

    Indian Citizenship Act
    All Native Americans born in the United States were granted citizenship. This let all indigenous people that had not already become citizens through other means (joining the army, etc.) become citizens of the United States. This was a large step for the United States and lead to the next big step, African Americans.
  • 1st Woman Governor

    1st Woman Governor
    Nellie Tayloe Ross was the 1st woman governor, serving in Wyoming. After the death of her husband, who was governor, she was put in the running but refused to campaign. Still she won by a landslide and remains the only woman governor Wyoming has had to this day. This was the next step to woman's rights after being able to vote. It broke way for other rights such as land rights, etc. And yet the US still hasn't had a woman president. . .

    Mount Rushmore Began
    Mount Rushmore is a monument that will forever hold a piece of American history. The heads of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln took over 10 years to complete and is one of the biggest and most treasured memorials of the presidents. This was an important date as it marks the start of such a great shrine to a proud history.

    Mickey and Minnie Mouse
    I had to include the birthday of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. What would our childhood be without these two? Mickey and Minnie started as a simple cartoon and turned Walt Disney into the greatest enterprise in film. Everything from Lion King to Pirates of the Carribean has Walt Disney's magic touch. This was the start of a great enterprise.

    Amelia Earhart
    Amelia Earhart was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic. Not only did this mark an important day for woman in history, but for the United States as well. These two put together made for a great journey and history that will be remembered for lifetimes.

    Stockmarket Crash
    The stockmarket crash of 1929 did not just affect America. It was a worldwide economic crisis affecting all the countries involved in WWI. This in turn made all the little countries around the world suffer. It is a crucial if very sad part of history and is the biggest cause of the Great Depression.
