The only way many Europeans knew war was through books and newspapers where it was shown to be an adventure that would be over in a few months. If people knew what war was really like; harsh, brutal, traumatizing. ect, people might come up with a different compromise to solve their problems. -

Assassination attempt on Archduke Ferdinand and his Wife
The Archduke and his wife had a failed assassination attempt on them when someone dropped a bomb off of a bridge that they were driving under. The bomb didn't hit them but killed many men who were trying to protect the Archduke and his wife. -

A second assassination attempt was put on the archduke and his wife when a man stepped out on the street beside their vehicle and shot Ferdinand and his wife killing them both. Germany Invades Belguim
During the first week of war, multiple German armies invade Beluim so they can make it into northern France. This invasion challenged the British guarantee that Belguim would not take sides in a conflict and brought Britian into war. -
Britain Declares War on Germany
Britain gave Germany an ultimatum to exit Belgium as it's Neutrality has been guaranteed by Britain for a very long time. Germany's response to the incident in Sarajevo caused Belgium to be doomed to an invasion and was a cause to Britain declaring war on Germany. -
Effects of Machines and Technologies
Many harsher weapons were created to make the killing of other men more efficient. These new weapons such as machine guns and field artillery would make the casualties of people increase and give places with more resources a greater advantage. -
Battle of Mons
The British army has it's first engagement in Belgium, France. German troops attack British soldiers killing too many men and forces them to retreat. After facing this humiliation, Britain begins to form it's first large army. -
The Battle of Marne
French and British armies try to stop German troops from invading Paris. Both sides settle in on the Belguim coast and defensive lines are drawn across north-east France. This marked the end of Mobile battles and started four years of trench warfare on the Western Front. -
Battle of Ypres
Allied and German forces begin there first battle of three to gain control of the city of Ypres to have the advantage of being on the north coast of Belguim during the First World War. The German troops used deadly chlorine gas against the French troops killing many men, luckily the Canadian troops saved the day by using urine soaked hankerchiefs to protect them against the gas. Attacks were then made against the Germans causing them to lose the gains they had made. -
Lusitania Sinks
British vessel is hit by German submarine causing the deaths of many crew and passengers. German had intent to attack ships that entered the war zone around Britain. -
Italy Declares War on Austria-Hungary
By joining the Allies, Italy gained a few benefits such as gaining control over territory on it's border with Austria-Hungary and also having parts of numerous islands along Austria-Hungary's Adriatic coast. This decleration of war opened up a new front. -
Germany Agrees to Limit Submarine Warfare
After the sinking of the Lusitania, US president Woodrow Wilson demands Germany to limit it's submarine warfare. Fearful of antagonizing Americans, Germany agrees to put a halt on its submarine policy. -

One of the deadliest battles in history. The French demanded Britain to attack the Germans before they were ready costing Britain the lives of many men. During and after this battle, the British began improving in there tactics. -
Tanks in WW1
Even though tanks brought little success in both the battle of Flers and Somme, it had a great effect on ending trench warfare and brought back some mobility to the Western Front. -

In response to being pressured by the USA and other neutral countries, Germany returns the policy of unrestricted submarine warfare. -
Conscription Crisis
Volunteering to participate in war began to lessen so the Federal government began forcing men into joining in on overseas military services. Many people were opposed to this idea. -
USA Enters World War 1
After multiple incidents with Germany attacking US ships, USA decides to join the Allies and fight against Germany. -
Selective Service Act
USA president passes this act to help increase the numbers of men in the military. It states that men between the ages 21 and 30 have to register for the military service. -
Treaty of Brest-Litovsk
Signed by Russia to Gemany, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria declaring Russia ending it's participation in World War One. -
Signing of the Treaty of Mudros
Turkey signed this treaty ending it`s involvement in war for a few conditions: demobilize it`s army, release all prisoners from war and evacuate its Arab provinces. -
End of World War One
Germany asks allies to sign an armistice declaring peace and putting an end to this world war. This ending document was signed and stated that the war would come to an end precisely at 11 AM on November 11th.
