    Native American, West African, and European people lived in complex societies. Many of these groups survived by hunting and farming. Farming made develpment of civilazation possible. All these groups had their own culture and belief that they stuck to expecally Native Americans.

    Beginning voyage of Christopher Columbus
    In 1492 Spanish rulers supported Christopher in his plan to sail across the Atlantic. His accomplishment was sighting Caribbean land which lead to many more voyages of exploration. The arrival of Eurpeans had a serious effect on the Native Americans spreading smallpox to the people and putting them in harsh working and living condfitions.

    The North and ASouth both disagreeed on slavery with heightened regional tensions and led to the break up of the Unioons. North wanted to get read of slavery as the South disagreed. Congress tried to compromise with both parties, but this was not easy. The election of Lincoln helped fighure it out at the end.

Four more Southerns states seceded. The Noth planned to bloackade the South. A confederated victory at Bull Run resulted in stepped- up enlistments in the North. 1863 Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed the slaves in Confederate states and gave the war a high mornal purpose.

    Many of the Afircan Ameicans after war got their Indepence since the 14th Amendment was passed. This was good making them citizens just as equal as the white man, but it was bad because the government left them with nothing and no help to support them for a healthy living.

    The growth and consolidation of railroads benefitted the nation but also led to corruption and required government regualtions. The railroad helped link the nations and helped move many farmed crops. Rail lines totaled more then 200,000 miles. But building and running the railroads was difficult and dangerous work for thousands of workers. More then 2,000 railroad workers had died and another 20,000 had been injured.

    Many groups such as the Native Ameicans and small farmers had difficulties with the Western Frontier. Conflict was started when both groups were threatened for their land. Native Ameicans were forced by violence off their land. Small farmers were faced with horrible conditions that forced them to give in for their land in return.

    At the end of the 19th century, natural resources, creative ideas, and growing markets fueled an industrial boom. Steel allowed the Railroads to be created. Thomas Edison invented electricity from power plants. The typewriter and telephone were created. These and other inventions changed daily life. Many women began to work in offices allowing women to have a job. Many issues began when women and other workers were getting paid little for over worked hours.

    Big business was good and had on America. Industrial Technology helped fuel, oil, steel, and electricity grow into something big. Also made things like telphones, typewriters, and railroads possible. Issues were faced when working conditions were unfair. Death and little pay accoured and much violence was started when people went on Labor Strikes.
