  • First Continental Congress

    (Sept 5, 1774-Oct 26, 1774). American colonists fought to dismiss the new Intolerable Acts by meeting in Philadelphia, but the parliament didn't acknowledge the colonists.
  • Second Continental Congress

    (Sept 5, 1774-Oct 26, 1774). Another meeting in Philadelphia to discuss the colonists next move. They appoint George Washington to command the army and war was brought about, but they decided to not break away from England.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    July 8, 1775. American colonists tried to make peace with Great Britain’s king at the time, George III and militias were formed after the last effort was portrayed.
  • Prohibitory Act

    December 22, 1775. Great Britain’s way of reacting against a revolt while destroying the economy and surrounding the colonies so that Americans couldn’t trade with any other country.
  • Declaration of Independence

    July 4, 1776. It declared the United States to be independent from the British Crown by the representatives of the 13 colonies, which included Thomas Jefferson and John Adams.
