Weimar Republic becomes German Reich
The Weimar Republic was democratic German state created out of the Treaty of Versailles. The Chancellorship of Adolf Hitler marked the end of the republic, and the creation of the German Reich. -
Recognition of the Soviet Union by the United States
The Soviet Union was not recognized by the United States due to its recognition of the Russian Empire, it would be recognized on this year. -

Operation Barbarossa
Operation Barbarossa was a German offensive launched against the Soviet Union, destroying their pact of non-aggression. It ultimately failed, and only succeeded in opening up a war on two fronts. -
Attack on Pearl Harbor
The Imperial Japanese navy attacked the United States naval base of Pearl Harbor. Although they crippled the island, the navy did not invade Hawaii, and left. This ultimately brought the United States into the war against all of the Axis powers. -

The partition of Vietnam was agreed upon during the Geneva Peace Conference. Vietnam would be split along the 7th parallel, and the peoples there would create their own governments, and not establish alliances with other nations. The United States broke the agreement by establishing their own government in South Vietnam. -
Warsaw Pact
The Warsaw Pact was a pact between the USSR and the Eastern Bloc nations. It was a counterbalance to the already established NATO. -
Egyptian Nationalization of the Suez Canal.
President Nasser of Egypt nationalized the Suez Canal. Although Nasser promised compensation for the action, the powers established in the region would not accept it. And it would later spark the Suez Crisis. -
Hungarian Revolution
The Hungarian Revolution was a movement to end Soviet domination, and was ultimately suppressed by the Soviet Union. -
Suez Crisis
Coerced by the English and French, the State of Israel attacked Egypt and positioned themselves near the Suez Canal. The French and English would later invade as an excuse to keep the peace in the canal. The United States, wanting to disassociate itself with imperialism, as well as wanting to rightfully oppose Soviet intervention in Hungary, condemned the invasion. The United States also pressured for a ceasefire, and the establishment of a United Nations Peacekeeping Force. -
