  • My Mom reading me and my sister stories

My Mom reading me and my sister stories
At night time, there would normally be a story before bed. My mom would sit in my bed and my sister would sit on her lap. I recall her reading things like Pinkalicious and Curious George. It was a nice way to calm down before falling to sleep. Back then I didn’t like to read much, but I like to think that her reading to me made me more interested. She would always try to nudge me to read at least a little.
  • My mom writing sight words

    My mom writing sight words
Back when I was home-schooled in the Bronx, my mom had different ways for me to learn words. She had a list of sight words in certain places; like the door of the pantry and the shelves in my room. They had words like, ‘He, She, The, As, If’ etc.
  • Color Frogs with names

    Color Frogs with names
My mom put Paper Frogs with how to spell what color they were in English and Spanish on the dishwasher that we never used.
  • Period: to

When I lived in the Bronx

This was when I was home-schooled in the Bronx, NY.
  • Playing with Barbies with my cousin

Playing with Barbies with my cousin
Me and my cousin loved to play with barbies (and other dolls too). We would make weird story liens and go along with everything. (Odd thing that I remember is that when we pretended the barbies were vampires, instead of having french fries they would have french guys fingers. Over the summer, sometimes my cousin stayed over. We would end up making two films over a summer. One was a parody of an already existing Barbie show and the other an original.
  • Making videos with my sister (and our stuffed animals)

Making videos with my sister (and our stuffed animals)
We called it ‘The Beanie Boo show’. On my bed we used the big yellow blanket I had as sand and other blankets as water (It was set on an island). It had a theme song and everything. We had some much fun making those videos and most of the story was improv. We would have a basic idea and just go with it. Whenever I re-watch those old videos I can sometimes hear my parents in the background due to us changing the scene. Overall though I think that in some way shaped my writing.
  • Period: to

After we moved to West Haven

My sister and I went to public school now.
  • Reading graphic novels at Carrigan

     Reading graphic novels at Carrigan
Raina Telgemeier’s graphic novels most definitely got me into reading more.
  • Roleplaying with friends online

    Roleplaying with friends online
I made a Roblox account in august 2018. It’s basically a platform where people can make and share games. I remember coming home from school then hopping on to one of the games (Royale High) and roleplaying with friends. In a way you could say it's another form of improv. It was fun developing the characters we made. I think I can confidently say that I’ve gotten a little better at writing/ coming up with store ideas by roleplaying.
  • 8th Grade English (at Bailey)

     8th Grade English (at Bailey)
I don’t know what, but something just clicked in 8th grade. I got into writing a LOT more. (I have a few books filled with things I wrote back then, I’m still working on some of them). I definitely think the things we read, like The Outsiders, and projects we had, like making stories with a list of vocab words, definitely made it a lot more fun.
  • Creative writing club (at WHHS)

    Creative writing club (at WHHS)
This was after the Covid school year. I got really into writing the past year and decided to join the club here. It was really fun to be able to talk to others that liked to write and come up with different ideas. Sometimes we just made stories from looking at imagines while other times we were given a few things to pick from to include in our stories. Usually as the months pass there weren't many but it was still great. (I plan on joining once more this year).
