One of my first memories with writing is when in pre-k my mom, who was my teacher at the time, was teaching all of the kids to write. When it was my turn to go and write I remember my mom giving me one of the fat pencils and helping me trace the letters, as well as learning how to write my name.

There's a Wocket in My Pocket!
One of the first books that I remember enjoying reading is "There's a Wocket in My Pocket! " by Dr. Seuss. When I think of this book I think of sitting with my grandma reading this book at her house. I think this book was one of the many books that i picked up and read many many times, which helped grow my reading skills as a child.

One of the memories that comes to mind when I think about elementary school is when I was in fourth grade. In fourth grade I remember always getting excited to go to the computer room because I knew that I was going to have the chance to play fun literacy computer games. This was one of those times when reading and writing became fun for me.

    5th-6th grade
Another memory with learning to write is when in both 5th- and 6th grade during the computer lab our teacher would set us up in a typing lab to help us learn how to type with efficiency. This is an important moment because it has helped me to become the writer I am today especially because a lot of the writing assignment today are on computer. And it also helped me to learn to like typing on a computer.

My freshman year was really the first year when I really had to put in the work on my reading and writing. Throughout freshman year I read many book (some of which were challenging) and wrote many essays. As I wrote these essays and got them corrected, I feel that my writing skills really improved especially since we were constantly writing in both Social Studies and ELA classes.

    10th grade
During my sophomore year of high school I took honors ELA and I feel this was one of my toughest years for my reading skills. This class really challenges me because of the type of literature that we were reading. During this time I found that these readings were written in a way that was hard to understand and since I found them hard to understand, I was often bored when reading. In the long run this class taught me to push through challenging reads.

    Dear Evan Handson
Dear Even Handson was one of the first books that I really liked and got into. I picked this book for in school independent reading but little did I know that I was going to love it. This book really got me into reading for fun and not just for school. For the first time I was so invested into a book that I was actually emotional while reading it.

    Writing Skills
During my sophomore year in ELA I was constantly writing paragraphs as well as essays. Throughout this time my writing skills were challenged all the time. As I was challenged by timed essays and short time spans for writing assignments, I noticed my writing skills improve more and more as I went on through the year.
