Compulsory Education Laws
Compulsory Education Laws were created to legally mandate all children to be present in school to gain an education. By 1918, all states had passed school attendance legislation, although, until the 1930s, many were unsuccessful in enforcing their compulsory schooling laws. However, as the population increased and the demand for well-trained labor grew, the bureaucratic machinery for enforcement was created.

Jerome Harste
Harste was an expert in early written language literacy learning. He conducted many studies of what young children know about reading and writing before pushing the field of literacy education toward a socio-psycholinguistic theory of literacy learning in schools. He believed that the children's learning should inform us of the curriculum and teaching needed rather than tests.

Internet in the Classroom
Almost all public schools had Internet access by 2002. The availability of the Internet in public schools grew rapidly in the late 1990s and then leveled off. Internet in the classroom has changed the classroom immensely with children being able to access brand new things in a brand new way.
