My Literacy Timeline

  • Story time at the library

    Story time at the library
On my mom's days off, she would take my brother and I to the public library to sit on the carpeted bleachers and listen to a story.
  • Reading my first book series

    Reading my first book series
The first series I read was Author and I loved it because the show on PBS kids was my favorite.
  • Extra help with reading

    Extra help with reading
In first grade I remember being pulled out of class days after our literacy test. I was put into a smaller class for about an hour every day where we worked on reading in a small group with one teacher. I remember really enjoying the class because of how fun it was and being upset I was taken out a couple of months after starting.
  • Raz Kids

    Raz Kids
Every we had computer lab as our elective for the day we would have to work on our Raz Kids. Everybody hated Raz kids because it made you read boring books and answer the questions that corresponded afterwards. We used this software up until 6th grade.
  • Reading my first chapter book

    Reading my first chapter book
My first chapter book was Ready Freddy Halloween Fraidy Cat. I remember being mad that my teacher choose a chapter book for my at home reading because I thought it was going to take a really long time and be too difficult. She was sure that I should move up a level in reading.
  • Learning how to spell my last name

I had never wrote my last name as Bongiorni because I din't know how to spell it. I would always only put Nucci, which is not my full last name.
  • National Geographic kids

    National Geographic kids
My dad had a National Geographic subscription and I had a National Geographic kids subscription. I thought it was cool that my dad and I were reading the "same" thing. I looked forward to receiving the newest issue each month and was never disappointed with the contents. I had also gotten into the Weird But True series by Nat Geo Kids which I was obsessed with and wanted to collect.
  • Getting into graphic novels

    Getting into graphic novels
I wasn't big on reading as a kid because I preferred to be outside and playing but was obsessed with graphic novels. I would go to the library every weekend in an attempt to read all of the baby mouse books.
  • Diary Of A Wimpy Kid

    Diary Of A Wimpy Kid
I had considered it my first "real" book obsession. As a kid, the Diary of Wimpy Kid series was a "real" book because they had minimal pictures and were "long". I really enjoyed these books trying to work through the whole series at my local library and awaiting the arrival of Jeff Kinney's newest books.
  • Junior Adult books

    Junior Adult books
In 6th grade I was starting to phase out of the Diary of a Wimpy kid books and younger kids graphic novels. In my English class, my teacher had split everyone into small groups to read a book and then do a project at the end. She said that my partner and I would be a good fit to read the Hunger Games and I loved it and became obsessed with the movies.
  • Manga

    Manga
During the pandemic, I got really into a Japanese style of graphic novels. Once the library's reopened I was always there looking for the next book in the tons of series I started all at the same time because of how fast I read through them.
  • Current Day

    Current Day
I do not read as much as I should but occasionally I will pick up a book or two. Some books I've read recently is "It's Kind Of A Funny Story" and "The 10 People You Meet In Heaven"
